Anyone who is interested in more information about Campbell County Rescue Squad is welcome to contact our department through this website. You may also feel free to speak with any officer or member of the agency. There is a "ride-along" program available for anyone who may be interested in a closer look and this can be arranged by an officer of the crew. People who feel that they want to take part in serving their community should contact their local rescue squad.
Once the appliation is submitted, it will be processed by the Fire & Rescue office. This process includes a criminal background check and driving record investigation. After this in completed, usually in about 2 weeks, the application will be forwarded to CCRS, or the appropriate agency of interest. After receiving the application at CCRS, someone from the Membership Committee will contact the applicant to set up an interview in order to meet them, provide information, complete paperwork , and answer any initial concerns. After the inital meeting, the applicant will be brought before the general membership for an inital vote on probationary membership, thus begins the inital 6 month probationary period, where the applicant operates as a "3rd person." Applicants with previous EMS experience and current certifications, who are practicing locally, may be subject to a shortened probationary period. After this period, the applicant will be brought forth at a meeting for a vote on full membership.
We have two categories of members at Squad 2. Full membership consists of 28 hours of duty per calendar month and an "on-call" shift. The 28 hours is recommended to include a 14-hour long shift which is a Friday or Saturday night from 1800 to 0800 hours, with the rest being a combination of shorter shifts. Associate members must fulfill 18 hours of duty and an "on-call" shift. "On-call" shifts include one night per month, Sunday through Thursday night from 2200 hours until 0800 hours, or as late as can be feasible, still allowing time to get to work. Both Full and Associate members get a full vote in the general membership meeting, however, Associate members are not eligible to hold an officer's position.
A membership application is available through Bedford County Department of Fire & Rescue, and can be found using the following link: http://www.bcofr.com/application.html
